What is the SF-SGA and what is its mission?
We focus our efforts on building a professional community, advocating for students, fostering opportunities for professional development and networking, and promoting diversity on our campus and in our community. This year, the SF-SGA is comprised of 24 students representing the four different schools housed under the umbrella of Alliant. We especially welcome students from Alliant’s newest program, The California School of Forensic Studies. In addition to program representatives, positions exist that are dedicated to multicultural issues, campus focus groups, financial aid, credit for previous work students, and more.
Where does the budget come from and how is it allocated?
The SGA budget is generated from student fees that are paid with tuition. The budget is worked on collaboratively and approved by the entire SGA. It is managed by the SGA Treasurer and overseen by the SGA Co-chairs. One of our goals for this year is to create a website that will support hosting information files so our budget can be posted and feedback can be garnered. Click here to review our Fall 2010 budget.
How do students become members of the SGA?
Student Government Association members nominate themselves by presenting a letter of intent to the SGA that outlines how they would like to contribute and for which position they feel best suited. Members of SGA then vote to approve applicants, but generally speaking, if you want to be involved, we would love to have you on board. If no suitable positions are available, or you would rather not hold an official position, you are still more than welcome to attend our meetings.
When are SGA meetings held?
Meetings are held on the first Sunday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon. All students are welcome to sit in and join us for each meeting. Look out for e-mails to your Alliant account to remind you of upcoming meetings. We welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to share project ideas, concerns, upcoming events, and ideas for improving our programs and community by emailing us. We look forward to hearing from you.
